I have to say studying in Swinburne is really good, I have no complaint about this university. My sister recommended two universities when I was in my country, RMIT or Swinburne, I applied both but Swinburne was quicker to offer me a place, then I went for it. Now I feel so lucky to be a member of it. Teachers, friends, programs and facilities are all excellent. If any international student comes from an Asian country like me, I would say just come here and have fun while archieving success. I know most of student from Asia have to load a heavy program while studying in the uni, but here you just have to pay attention on your study and you can get good result because the programs are designed to help us balance our life so you dont have to be too stress while at the uni.
I think the process was quite easy and very quick. I was helped by the uni representative in my country, I had them do all the application and obtaining visa. I had clear documents, I mean, financial provement, study plan, good result and feedback from teachers when I was in a dosmestic uni, and a desire to go abroad for study. That was really simple. I got visa quite quick and did not meet any problem.
I have no idea about these things. But I suggest that anybody wants a scholarship or funding opportunity, you'd better go to Swinburne's homepage, they have everything for current students, future students and international students, very informative and easy to use. They also have some links to many scholarships from other organizations or government's programs. But I think you must have very high distinctive result in order to get those.
I have to admit that marketing is really hard and international students rarely take this course because it requires so much creation and imagination, and it is definitely difficult for international students because we mostly can not use english as well as local student. But I chose it because I really like it, I can be free to creat things and learn from the fact. I just have to go to class 12 hours per week, most of the time I spent on self study and that is what we are expected to do in uni, so mostly classes are the time that we spend on asking about things that we don not understand in text book, exercise, assignments or previous lessons. My lecturers and tutors are quite strict, we are asked to research deeply, read so many things and be creative as much as possible. Some times I feel so hard, but that was just the beginning, now I am getting on well with those requirements. Thanks to them, I now have a habbit to look at everything around me, think about the theory that it comes from and how can I apply that into my own things. It is really useful for my study and career later. Thus, this course is value for money. One more thing, if I have any difficulty, can can get help from teachers who are always encourage you to ask and willing to help you solve the problem. Students with difficulty in enghlish or maths can get help from the uni.
I have no complaints about the facilities in my uni. I have everything I need, computers, books, calculators, softwares, DVD, even student lounge, bars to relax. And it is also very convenient. my campus has the train station right there, just 2 minutes walking, and it is not far from the city, has many restaurantsand cafe around. I love my uni!!!! Australians are friendly and very helpful, my teachers, my friends, and even strangers, they are always willing to help each other, especially foreigners. I also take part in Indonesian Student Association here, we share everything from study experience to life experience, and we help each other to get better here. There are some clubs in uni but I find myself not comfortable with them because of culture difference so I do not engage in these clubs.
Of course each person expects a good career after graduates. But it is in global financial crisis at the moment and I am not sure if I can get a good job from which I can earn much money and use up everything I have learnt. Anyway, I still have one year to go, all I can do now is to study at my best. After graduate, I might join the alumni, the uni also offers helps there.
